During term time training commences every Wednesday evening. These ‘drill nights’ provide the opportunity for students to learn the the practical skills required for when they go to sea onboard the unit’s dedicated training vessel, HMS Archer.
Drill nights can take shape in a number of forms ranging from formal lectures on coastal navigation and pilotage to student’s giving presentations to their peers on a subject of their choice or even practical leadership tasks (PLT).
Ultimately drill nights provide a basis for training weekends and our easter/summer deployments, where students consolidate what they have learned throughout the year in a practical environment.
